Brian Benson Cellars, Paso Robles, Central Coast

(2 Videos Below)
I was encouraged to go to Brian Benson Cellars, and had no idea what to expect.    It was everything I did not expect, from a well-recommended winery – and that is a compliment.  I loved Brian Benson Cellars for a few reasons: First off there was not a micron or pretension in the air.  The tasting room was nice, the tasting not overdone, and there is “low-brow art on the walls”.  What makes this so exciting, is that Brian Benson is not much older than myself, yet he is several vintages deep into making wine.  He is clearly having a blast and working hard.    In the video below, we go to the barrel storage room or hot-rod machine shop depending on the season or day.   Brian gives us a quick overview of what Brian Benson Cellars is all about and what to expect.   And this is the first time I have ever heard of a $3.00 tasting.

Also, please scroll down, as there is a second interview where he delves more into their oak barrel fermentation process & elaborates more clearly on his relationship and affinity for hot rods.

What a diversity and uncommon pairing.  For whatever reason I get a charge out of someone crossing boundaries that are typically not bridged.    And better yet he is following both of his passions with great promise –  good wines and hot-rods.   Cheers Brian!

This Second Vlog is some out takes of our interview where Brian explains more about his combining of Hot-rods and wine.  He also discusses a bit about the varietals he works with.
