St Helena AVA Tasting @ Flora Springs 5/30/09

Vineyard Vlog went to this event on a last minute tip and had no idea what to expect.   This tasting event was great.  There were 30+ wineries and vineyards presenting new release and current wine offerings.  The stipulation for what wine could be served at this event , is that all wine being poured had to have 100% St. Helena AVA grapes.

Upon arriving at Flora Springs there was Valet parking and a check-in tent which lead us down a 500′ wine cave.  Once we navigated their wine cave, we were “primed” with a Flora Spring 2007 Cab. Sauv. barrel Sample (served by the grandson of Flora).  Once out of the cave, the main event was on the large garden patio of Flora Springs.  The event was a thrill, as many wineries poured one bottle “blind” which, I think, gets the public that much more interactive and keen on the flavors of the wine being served.

There was also food by Cindy Pawlcyn of Mustards, Go Fish, & one other restaurant(?).   There was a Blind Tasting hall, where anyone could do a blind taste of 10 wines and then assign the 10 wines to a list of vineyards.  The challenge is that the list of vineyards was 15 long, so even though it was an assisted blind-tasting it was still pretty challenging.

Hope you enjoy our coverage and consider attending their next event.
